Welcome to the Directorate for Police Education, Professional Development and Science! This directorate is founded on September, 2^nd 2004. Despite being a new, small directorate, different from others, we can freely say that it has a strategic importance for further development of the Ministry of Interior. Namely, professionalism and efficiency of police officers and their reputation between the citizens of Serbia in the next decades will depend much on the development of police education. All experts, both domestic and foreign, estimate that the essence of police reform is related to more appropriate education and training of staff. Therefore, realization of this function is the key point in order to establish modern international standards and police work principles.

 A turning-point in our police education was solving the dilemma of whether to continue the current practice with some cosmetic rather than fundamental changes, or choose faster development, progress and reform. Decision to choose a path of reform was difficult, but inevitable. It was difficult as, with much energy and fear from potential failure, it also required certain cuts and diverging from set patterns. It was inevitable as there was no other alternative. 

 Foundation of the Directorate is a result of social needs to make a turning-point and improve the work of the Ministry of Interior. It is a result of a firm belief that having a modern training system can accelerate the reform process of the Ministry of Interior.

 The Directorate has a task to improve processes of police education, training and scientific-research work. This task is realized through coordination and assistance to the Police High School, the Police College, the Police Academy and the Training Center.
